Information About Mudras

Mudras use hand gestures and finger positions to shift, strengthen, and transmute the energy lines of our bodies. In Yoga theory, there are thousands of Nadis that run through and around our body. These energy lines influence how we feel and what we experience. By working with energy via Mudras, it helps us connect more deeply and establish balance, harmony, and connection.

A little bit about Nadis from Wikipedia:

Yoga theory explains that nadis carry prana or life force energy. In the physical body, the nadis are channels carrying air, water, nutrients, blood and other bodily fluids and are similar to the arteries, veins, capillaries, bronchioles, nerves, lymph canals.

In the subtle and the causal body, the nadis are channels for cosmic, vital, seminal, mental, intellectual, energies and are important for sensations, consciousness and the spiritual aura

Yoga texts disagree on the number of nadis in the human body. The Hatha Yoga Pradipika and Goraksha Samhita quote 72,000 nadis, each branching off into another 72,000 nadis, whereas the Shiva Samhita states 350,000 nadis arise from the navel center and the Katha Upanishad says that 101 channels radiate from the heart.

Mudras, Reflexology, & Astrology

As I mention in the video, mudras tap into energy lines echoing the work we do in acupressure and even acupuncture, plus reflexology and even astrology. Your hand is a map of your body. Each area of your body can be found and worked energetically via your hand.

Here’s a reflexology chart.

And here are two palmistry charts. I’m sharing both because one gives you great insight into the energy at the mount of the fingers (base) and the other shows you a bit more in terms of the elements of each finger as well as what planet is associated with each finger tip. Notice the thumb doesn’t have an astrological association, but it does have an overall energetic aspect.

If Mudras interest you, there are many books available. Check out this list of some of my favorites (amazon affiliate link) As with all of this work, I encourage you to explore, to be curious as to how and why something works, and to be conscious of how each mudra supports you, as we are all unique.

Also please remember, this work is not ‘one-and-done.’ You don’t just do it once and that’s it. This is a practice. The more you practice, the greater your connection, the more you shift, the deeper your self-mastery.
